چکیده

Siderophore type chelates were isolated from nutrient enriched seawater collected from coastal and near shore environments and detected using a novel high performance liquid chromatography – electrospray ionisation – mass spectrometric technique. Seawater was enriched with added glucose, ammonia and phosphate, and incubated for four days. Seven different siderophore type compounds were detected in the extracted supernatants and tentatively identified based on mass numbers and spectra. The compounds comprised two groups, the ferrioxamines and the amphibactins. They were produced at typical coastal iron concentrations (total dissolved iron = 2.9 ± 1.4 2 nM and 2.2 ± 0.1 nM) both in the presence and absence of the iron chelating ligand ethylene diamine-N,N′-diacetic acid.

Proteomic Stable Isotope Probing Reveals Taxonomically Distinct Patterns in Amino Acid Assimilation by Coastal Marine Bacterioplankton

Heterotrophic marine bacterioplankton are a critical component of the carbon cycle, processing nearly a quarter of annual primary production, yet defining how substrate utilization preferences and resource partitioning structure microbial communities remains a challenge. In this study, proteomic stable isotope probing (proteomic SIP) was used to characterize population-specific assimilation of ...

Genome sequence of Salinisphaera shabanensis, a gammaproteobacterium from the harsh, variable environment of the brine-seawater interface of the Shaban Deep in the Red Sea.

We present the genome of Salinisphaera shabanensis, isolated from a brine-seawater interface and representing a new order within the Gammaproteobacteria. Its adaptations to physicochemical and nutrient availability fluctuations include six genes encoding heavy metal-translocating P-type ATPases and multiple genes involved in iron uptake, siderophore production, and poly-β-hydroxybutyrate synthe...

Succession of pelagic marine bacteria during enrichment: a close look at cultivation-induced shifts.

Enrichment experiments with North Sea bacterioplankton were performed to test if rapid incubation-induced changes in community structure explain the frequent isolation of members of a few particular bacterial lineages or if readily culturable bacteria are common in the plankton but in a state of dormancy. A metabolic inhibitor of cell division (nalidixic acid [NA]) was added to substrate-amende...

Nutrient limitation of bacterioplankton growth in Lake Dillon, Colorado

Bacterioplankton biomass, production, and growth rate were measured over a 2-yr period in Lake Dillon, a mesotrophic Colorado reservoir. In addition, a multivariate statistical analysis and nutrient addition experiments were used to analyze the regulation of bacterioplankton growth in situ. Biomass ranged between 170 (winter) and 2,200 mg C m-* (summer); production ranged from 10 (winter) to 62...

Structuring of Bacterioplankton Diversity in a Large Tropical Bay

Structuring of bacterioplanktonic populations and factors that determine the structuring of specific niche partitions have been demonstrated only for a limited number of colder water environments. In order to better understand the physical chemical and biological parameters that may influence bacterioplankton diversity and abundance, we examined their productivity, abundance and diversity in th...
